Ideas excite me. Our complex world can grind us down. Staying connected to beauty, imaginative thinking, and authentic conversation inspires us and fosters resilience. My work now focuses on these central themes. I see my paintings as metaphors that allow the viewer to build their own story.
Although my personal inspiration comes from an idea that I want to consider and explore, the work itself invites others to engage in making it their own. I had this experience standing in front of a Jack Bush painting at the AGO and was hooked for life. In the spring of 2007, my show Inner Landscapes II was inspired from sketches that people did expressing aspects of their own Myers Briggs personality profile. I interpreted their sketches to capture the essence of what they were expressing. The show became theatre as people engaged in animated conversation about the paintings and what they meant from their world stance.
